APCTT Meeting of the Network Partners for the Technology4sme.net website and Focal Points of the Business-Asia.net website
November 3-5, 2005, Tong Mao Hotel, Shanghai, , People's Republic of China

Participated in "APCTT Meeting of the Network Partners for the Technology4sme.net website and Focal Points of the Business-Asia.net website" organized by the Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), New Delhi at Tong Mao Hotel, Shanghai, People’s Republic of China during November 3-5, 2005. Shanghai Technical Transfer Exchange (STTE) was the local host organization. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Shanghai International Industry Fair (SIF 2005) organized by the Shanghai Technical Transfer Exchange (STTE) during November 4-9, 2005 at the New International Exhibition Center in Pudong New Area, Shanghai, People’s Republic of China. SIF is a state-level industry fair in China with emphasis on modern equipment and engineering technology.

The Meeting was attended by 25 participants from 10 countries, i.e., Bangladesh, China, India, Iran, Korea, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The special invitiees are Mr. Lu Xiaochun, Deputy Chairman of S&T Commission of Shanghai Municipality, Mr. Wang Haisheng President of Shanghai Technology Transfer Exchange, Mr. Yan Qinggun, Director of Shanghai S&T Development and Exchange Center, Mr. Li Zhijie, Deputy Director of S&T Bureau of Harbin City.

The meeting was inaugurated on November 3, 2005 at Tong Mao Hotel, 6F, 6th Floor, Shanghai and followed by Technical Sessions on Technology4sme.net and Business-asia.net Websites. There was a visit to New International Exhibition Center in Pudong New Area, Shanghai, People’s Republic and attended the Opening Ceremony of SIF 2005. The Business-asia.net was also launched during the SIF 2005. S&T Commission of Shanghai Municipality hosted the Banquet on November 4, 2005 in he evening. 

The meeting has 17 presentations from 10 member countries including APCTT in which I have presented the country paper on issues related with Technolgy4sme.net Website being developed by APCTT, which was highly appreciated by the participants & the organisers. The summary of the presentation is given below

A country paper on various issues related with Technology for SMEs. The presentation includes overview of ministry of science and technology, structure of DSIR, activities related to technology per se, i.e. Technology Development and Demonstration Programmes, Technopreneur Promotion Programmes, Web Portals, Consultancy Ciminics for SMEs, Design and Engineering Centers for SMEs, Overview of SSI in India, Impact of Globalization, Portal on Value Added Information Service from GoI on SSI, Evaluation of technology4sme regional website, suggestions on the website including content, content management and basic functionalities of the website including various security options. A detailed wishlist of the contents for the website is also presented and given below:

  • Information on agencies providing Term Loan, Venture Capital, Risk Fund, etc
  • Profile of agencies involved in Technology Development / Commercialization / Productization / Marketing / Transfer

After the discussions, recommendations and wrap-up, the meeting was concluded on November 5, 2005 at Tong Mao Hotel, 6F, 6th Floor, Shanghai. I have facilitated this session along with Mr. Se-Jun Yoon, Director, APCTT and Ms. Pornthipa Luengwatanakit, Chief, Technology Transfer Support, Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangkok.
